Birmingham Alabama Listed as One of the Most Dangerous Cities

From the crime statistics releases by the FBI, it is clear that Birmingham, Alabama is among the top most violent U.S. cities. In fact, it was ranked third in 2016, after Detroit and St. Louis. In 2015, it held the fifth position in homicides, trailing Detroit, St. Louis, New Orleans and Baltimore. The city’s property crime rate hit 13, 499 incidents, holding the eighth position in the nation. In 2016, 407 violent deaths were regarded as either murder or manslaughter. With a population of about 4.9 million, the city had about 26, 000 violent crimes during the same year, at least according to FBI data. This number is considerably higher than the nation’s average of 38.1.
